Clemson University’s Wind Turbine Drive Train Testing Facility yesterday saw the arrival of a four-story high gearbox and a massive steel connecting ring in a mammoth box, writes the Associated Press.
These gigantic components will be installed at what will be the world’s largest testing facility, capable of testing 15 MW next-generation wind turbines. The project received USD 45 million from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2009.
The facility is scheduled to open in November 2013.
