Adur and Worthing councilors held a meeting of their joint planning committee regarding the Rampion offshore wind farm, at which they expressed their skepticism about the benefits that the development could bring to the area.
The councilors believe that of the 1,000 jobs that are said to be created only a small amount of jobs would go to locals as they would be spread across a large area, Shoreham Herald informs.
The Councils have also submitted a report on the development to the Government, in which they backed the project in general, but highlighted the issues that E.ON should work on. Also, the Councils emphasized E.ON’s “missed opportunity” for an establishment of a visitor center at Shoreham Port , saying that the company should take this forward as soon as possible.
“The idea of a visitor centre based at the port, proposed by Adur and Worthing councils, is welcomed,” Shoreham Herald cites the port’s development director Peter Davies as saying.
Recently , GMB, the union for workers in the energy sector, voiced its concerns about job-related issues with this project and asked for assurances from E.ON that its project will create local working positions.
