A Russian company is planning to build a tidal power plant at Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland, writes the Belfast Telegraph.
Based on the Kisloguskaya scheme in Russia, the tidal power plant would consist of a dam that will have a road on top, linking Ards Peninsula and Strangford.
The plant would have a total capacity of 250MW, producing 1115GWh a year.
In a letter to Down District Council, Martex Invest Ltd chief executive Vladlen Lunin said: “The construction of the Strangford tidal power plant will boost the economy of the Co Down and facilitate the expansion of its transport infrastructure.”
He also added that the tidal power plant development would create several thousand of new jobs and that more than GBP 450 million will flow into Co Down and Ulster.
