Members of the Levenmouth Area Committee paid a visit to Samsung Heavy Industries at Methil’s Energy Park Fife this week to find out about progress on the world’s largest and most powerful turbine.

Last week the tower and nacelle of the turbine were erected and this week work began on installing the blades. It is expected that the blades will all be installed by the end of the week, weather permitting.

The structure was installed by GRAHAM Construction, the principal contractor on the project.

Samsung Heavy Industries hope the turbine, which will create enough energy to power 4,800 homes, will be operational by the end of this year.

Following a testing period the company hopes to attract orders which will allow it to build a manufacturing facility at Energy Park Fife.

Councillor Tom Adams, chair of Levenmouth Area Committee , said: “It was great for the area committee members to get a chance to find out about the progress being made on this project first hand.

“To have the world’s biggest and most powerful turbine is putting Methil into the national and international spotlight, which is fantastic.

“But in addition to that, this is also a vitally important project for us locally too, as this mast is a visual example of the regeneration of the Levenmouth Area.”
