More than 16,000 people gathered in front of the Chancellery in Berlin on November 30 to raise their voice against new German government’s apparent back-turning on renewables targets, Reuters reports.

Demonstrators fear that the new government could slow down the transition to renewables with its new energy plans. When it comes to offshore wind energy targets specifically, the new policy could demand a cut of the 2020 target from 10GW to 6.5GW, and the one previously set for 2030 would be scaled back from 25GW to 15GW.

So far, Germany managed to stay on track in reducing CO2 emissions by 40% until 2020. However, protesters warned that the new government will prolong this path for a decade, and that this clean energy target could not be reached before 2030 with the new energy policies, PressTV news site writes.
