The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has received a file submitted by residents of the Monhegan Island, who have concerns over the possible negative impact of Maine Aqua Ventus offshore wind farm.

Monhegan residents state that they are not against the offshore wind energy per se, but that the proposed project is too close to the shore. They are worried about the visual impact on the landscape, as well as the effect that the offshore wind farm would have on birds and marine life, Portland Press Herald informs.

Maine Aqua Ventus is estimated to produce 43,000 MWh of electricity per year from its two 6MW wind turbines, and could create hundreds of jobs in the state of Maine.
