Kent firms are being called on by a wind farm developer to go for new business as an offshore scheme gears up for construction.
Vattenfall, developer of the 15 turbine Kentish Flats Extension is working with the scheme’s main contractors to connect with the regions businesses at a supply chain event in Canterbury later this month. Vattenfall’s total investment in the 49.5 MW scheme will be more than £150 million.
Vattenfall and the main suppliers are particularly keen to speak with small and medium enterprises in the local area on the 24 January at the University of Kent.
Matthew Green, Vattenfall’s Project Manager for the construction of Kentish Flats Extension said: “We held our first supply chain event in 2011 and after getting government approval in March last year we now want to take our support for the regions business to the next phase. All along Vattenfall has wanted to give local business the edge in winning contracts for Kentish Flats Extension. We are pleased that all of our main suppliers will attend and we expect them to fulfil a commitment to maximise local and regional content in this major investment.”
Kevin Stucky, Residences and Conference Manager, University of Kent said: “The University is very happy to support Vattenfall with this event and to assist in any way we can to help the Kent economy.”
