Two European wind turbine foundation specialists have signed a supply deal with Cape Wind Associates for the first offshore wind farm in the United States, Cape Wind OWF.
German company EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH will supply monopiles, while the Danish company Bladt Industries A/S will deliver transition pieces for the future 468MW offshore wind park.
The production of foundations is scheduled to start in January 2015 at EEW’s facilities in Rostock, Germany, and Bladt’s facilities in Aalborg, Denmark.
“There is no doubt that, as market leaders our joint venture will deliver the best foundation solution possible for the project” , adds Karl Klös-Hein, Managing Director of EEW Special Pipe Constructions.
Recently, Cape Wind has signed a deal with Siemens to supply 130 3.6 MW wind turbines for the project.
