While some companies in the offshore wind energy sector are experiencing economic problems, BLG Offshore Wind Energy Logistics still has a pretty good order book, said Ferdinand Möhring, the company’s CEO.

Coastal vessels are transporting the rotor blades and rotor hubs from the manufacturing facilities in Stade and Bremerhaven to Wilhelmshaven, where BLG and AREVA are assembling rotor stars for the Global Tech I offshore wind farm.

The assembled rotor stars are then transported by the installation vessel Vidar to the construction site. There, about 100-ton rotor stars are lifted and rotated into the vertical position during lifting. The rotor is then mounted to the nacelle, 92 meters above the water surface.

The installation vessels Brave Tern and Bold Tern regularly load fittings, towers and nacelles for Global Tech I at BLG’s Offshore Terminal ABC-Peninsula in Bremerhaven. Large components from Bremen and Bremerhaven are transported by a barge and pontoon to BLG.

The pontoon OFFSHORE BHV I transports nacelles for the Global Tech I wind farm from the fishing port to BLG Offshore-Terminal. With its novel rail and load security system for loading and securing heavy components, BLG’s pontoon can work faster than conventional pontoons.
