Hyosung Corporation installed the aeroMaster 5.0 offshore wind turbine, developed by aerodyn Energiesysteme GmbH in Germany, on Jeju Island, South Korea, on February 24.
The wind turbine with a rotor diameter of 139 m and 5 MW power has a high-speed drive train with a medium voltage generator. The turbine was developed incorporating the well-proven aeroMaster drive train concept. This concept is already used in designs for 1.5 and 2.5 MW onshore turbines.
The aeroMaster 5.0 is already the third 5 MW offshore wind turbine from aerodyn. More than 10% of wind turbines installed around the globe originate from this German engineering firm. The second prototype of the 5 MW turbine will be installed during this year by a Chinese manufacturer. The fourth offshore design from aerodyn with 6 MW power and an integrated drive train (SCD) will also go into operation this year.
