R115 wave energy system, installed at Punta Righini offshore Italy, successfully converted wave energy into electricity yesterday, 40SouthEnergy informed via social media.

The R115 wave energy converter was installed and functioning at its operational depth on March 22.

40South Energy has partnered up with Enel Green Power to develop this wave energy system, and the companies are now testing the 150 kW device at Punta Righini. After the testing phase, the R115 wave energy converter will be installed off Elba Island.

The project is currently in the second testing phase, which aims to optimise the use of materials and operations.

The two companies have further consolidated their partnership in order to develop a new 2MW prototype, which will operate in the same way as the device currently being tested, and have the same essential characteristics.
