Ramora UK and 6Alpha have detonated the first of three unexploded WWII bombs which were found on the seabed within the construction area of the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, writes the Daily Post.

RWE Innogy UK first discovered the bombs in January and they acquired licenses for disposals earlier this month.

Toby Edmonds, RWE Innogy UK’s Gwynt y Môr Project Director , said: “As expected, the detonation had little impact on the surface of the sea. Two further bombs will be dealt with in a similar way in the coming days.”

He continued by saying: “During the operation, a 1,000 metre exclusion zone was put in place to ensure the safety of everyone involved and those operating close to the wind farm. ”

Work has already resumed at the 160-turbine Gwynt y Môr wind farm.

After its completion, which is expected later this year, the wind farm with a total capacity of 576MW will be able to power approximately 400,000 homes.
