The wind energy project offshore Block Island has received another thumbs up by a subcommittee of the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC), reports the Providence Journal.

Yesterday, the CRMC unanimously voted in favor of the Deepwater Wind’s 30MW Block Island wind farm at a meeting held at the University of Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay campus.

The project will now go before the full CRMC, which will reach a final decision on the project.

“The OSAMP subcommittee did a very thorough review of the project that we believe is an unprecedented level of scrutiny for a renewable energy project. We are anxious to go to the full CRMC,” said Deepwater CEO Jeffrey Grybowski.

The company plans to deploy five Alstom Haliade 150 6MW turbines around three miles off the coast of Block Island, which will be able to power over 17,000 homes.
