About 200 representatives from the East of England’s energy sector are heading to the House of Commons next month to meet business secretary Vince Cable and energy secretary Ed Davey.

They will be pressing the case for continued government investment in the region as it looks to become the country’s number one supplier of energy.

The reception at the House of Commons on May 13th is being organised by the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR), whose chief executive Simon Gray said: “It’s absolutely vital that we keep reminding central government of the importance of this region to Britain’s energy supply. That means taking the message to the heart of government and delivering it with a strong, coherent and coordinated voice.

“With innovation extending the life the Southern North Sea gas fields, development of the world’s biggest windfarms off our coast and the prospect of a new nuclear power station at Sizewell, the East of England is attracting major private sector investment that must be matched by support and incentives from our Government.

“We have to keep reminding them of our importance to the country as a whole.”

The event, at which EEEGR will unveil two key initiatives, will be attended by Vince Cable, Ed Davey and regional members of parliament. It is open to members of EEEGR and their guests.
