An interdisciplinary group of doctoral students who study wind energy at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, conducted a case study on the subject of Cape Wind, a project which could become America’s first offshore wind farm.
They reviewed the development, as well as the current status of the project, and looked into the factors that lead to the public opposition.
The students are members of the National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship in wind energy. To find out more about their findings watch the following video:
Cape Wind is planned to be located in the US federal waters off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound.
It would comprise of 130 Siemens 3.6MW offshore wind turbines, totaling its capacity to 468 MW.
The developer of this project believes it will complete the financing of the project during the second half of 2014, while the construction will follow soon after.
