The views of fishermen and other sea users are being sought about the proposal for Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) to temporarily use the storm mooring buoys in the Dee Estuary that have been installed near to Mostyn dock over the early part of the summer.

At the moment the Gwynt y Môr project is in one of its busiest periods with construction, commissioning of turbines and start of operation. There are currently 19 CTVs transporting workers from Mostyn out to the wind farm.

The pontoon at Mostyn only accommodates 12 vessels. At the moment when CTVs are not in use and cannot be accommodated on the pontoon they are being sent to anchor in the Mostyn Deep which is a navigational channel.

Over the next few months (from May to July) it is proposed that the 12 storm moorings upstream of the pontoon should be used to moor boats when not in use instead of anchoring in the Mostyn Deep. This would only be for a few hours at a time as the CTV’s are in 24 hours use. The location of these moorings is shown in the chart here.

The number of CTV’s will reduce towards the end of the summer as we come to the end of construction so this will not be an issue later in the year.

During adverse weather conditions the additional vessels which cannot be accommodated on the storm moorings would be sent to Liverpool to take cover.
