Earlier this year, Blue Water shipped and handled a crane upgrade for A2SEA’s offshore installation vessel, “SEA INSTALLER”.

“Project specialists from Shanghai, Singapore and Esbjerg have handled a major component for the crane upgrade – an A-frame weighing 144 ton and measuring approx. 3000 x 1400 x 900 cm. The large component was loaded on a barge in China and later shifted to the heavy-lift vessel “Da Tai” for onward transportation to Esbjerg,” explains Nikolaj Buurgaard Sørensen, Project Manager from Blue Water .

Upon arrival at Esbjerg, Blue Water handled the remaining part of the transport and precision was the main factor for a successful project.

“When the component arrived, we acted as agents for the vessel and were responsible for all stevedoring activities. The A-frame was discharged onto two side-by-side coupled multi-axled trailers, which were in standby position at the quay. It was quite a challenge due to the dimensions of the A-frame, but the specialists involved had made precise calculations. Combined with dedicated efforts from all stevedores, the cargo was landed safely on the trailers, ready for the last part, being trucking to storage area and landing off on specially designed stools,” says Nikolaj Buurgaard Sørensen .

A2SEA’s new vessel “SEA CHALLENGER” will soon arrive at Esbjerg, bringing along another large crane boom, which will also be handled by the Blue Water’s specialists.
