German Team to Launch MIR at Seawork and Windforce

MIR Maritime is a newly established partnership between J & C Bachmann GmbH, located in Bad Wildbad, and SCHRAMM group in Brunsbüttel. They have jointly developed the new product: MIR – Motion Impact Recorder. It measures, records and documents impacts and accelerations applied in shipping by combining hardware, software and services. Impacts and accelerations

will be measured and processed.

An important area of application are Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) bringing service technicians to the offshore wind turbines (OWTs). During transit, service technicians are exposed to accelerations from heavy sea swell which may lead to permanent damage to the spine and could cause temporary seasickness. When stepping over, CTVs usually press against the boat landing, applying an impact load to the steel structure.

All impact and acceleration values are measured and recorded by MIR. The combination of the sensor system with GPS allows the assignment of data to the position of the vessel. MIR can distinguish between accelerations while sailing or an occurrence at a specific OWT. Data acquisition can be suspended while sailing in sheltered areas or during time in port.

Optionally MIR on a CTV can be equipped with an onboard camera. Thus, each critical maneuver will be permanently recorded where the ship’s movements are outside of tolerances. Recording, analysis and reporting of data is carried out via a secure process such that the customer, the ship’s owner or the ship‘s crew cannot manipulate the data.

Besides reporting MIR Maritimes services comprise system adaption to the ship´s hydrostatic and dynamic characteristics, installation advice and prompt reaction in case of issues. The hardware in use remains the property of MIR Maritime.
