During his speech at Global Offshore Wind 2014, UK Energy Minister Michael Fallon disclosed that he recently initiated a review of the future of the UK offshore wind supply chain.
The review will help find out what more can the industry and government do to support offshore wind development. Minister Fallon said that he will get the report on the supply chain in the autumn.
“The review will help consolidate joint industry and Government working, contributing to the further development of our investment strategy, and support the work of the Offshore Wind Investment Organisation,” Minister Fallon said.
Offshore Wind Investment Organisation is one of the actions from the Offshore Wind Industrial Strategy, with a focus on securing new major supply chain investments in turbines, substations, towers, and foundations. This approach is being strategically directed by the Offshore Wind Industry Council, a senior Government and industry forum established in May 2013 to drive the development of the world-leading offshore wind sector in the UK.
This supply chain review has a mission to support the role that the Council has in the offshore wind development. “The Offshore Wind Industry Council has a key role to play in capturing the benefit of the offshore wind supply chain for the UK as a whole, enabling the investment that brings crucial jobs and growth to our country and supports home grown businesses,” Minister Fallon explained.
