The examination timetable has been published by the Examining Authority. The Rule 8 letter, sent to all interested parties after the preliminary meeting, indicates that the examination will close on 10 December 2014.

Tidal Lagoon (Swansea Bay) PLC is seeking development consent for the Swansea Tidal Lagoon and associated electricity generating infrastructure with a nominal capacity of 240MW.

According to press reports, Bristol City Council, Sedgemoor District Council, West Somerset Council and Cardiff City Council will submit an application for a £3m grant to the European Union for the financing of a tidal lagoon in the Severn Estuary.

Peter Kydd, chairman of the South West Marine Energy Park was recently quoted in Offshore WIND , stating that a tidal lagoon is a “more feasible solution” than a tidal barrage. He said that: “Having a structured plan to develop the Severn’s tidal power resource in this way could produce as much or more power than a Severn barrage when complete, but would avoid the difficulties of committing to a single large project from the outset.”
