The first set of transition pieces (TPs) for EnBW’s Baltic 2 offshore wind farm has left the port in Rostock on board the installation jack-up platform Goliath on Friday.
Two transition pieces per shipment are loaded on the Goliath and then transported in around 12 hours of sailing to their destination in the Baltic 2 construction area.
They will be placed onto large steel tubes, which EnBW has already fixed to the seabed.
The foundation components are 17 meters long and thus as high as a six-story building. They have a diameter of five meters and weigh 230 tons.
EnBW’s Baltic 2 is being built 32 kilometers north of the Baltic Sea island of Rügen. The 80 wind turbines will have a total capacity of 288MW. The offshore wind farm will be capable of producing 1,200 GWh of electricity per year and provide electricity to around 340,000 households.
