Hull City Council has welcomed today’s news that Siemens is advertising its first two jobs at Green Port Hull.
The global energy giant is now recruiting for the positions of Personal Assistant and Quantity Surveyor at the wind turbine production and installation facilities it is building at sites in Hull and Paull. The positions will form part of the Hull project team tasked with driving the construction and development of the project forward.
Eventually, 1,000 jobs will be created, with more to follow in the supply chain.
Members of Hull City, and East Riding of Yorkshire Councils economic development teams are working with Siemens to make sure local people and businesses reap the benefits of Siemens’ commitment to the region. In total, the team has been working with Siemens and its port partner, Associated British Ports (ABP) for more than four years and helped to seal the deal that will eventually create £310 million of combined investment.
The news that Siemens is now beginning to build its Hull project team is a major step for the UK’s offshore wind industry and a vote of confidence jobseekers in the Humber region.
Finbarr Dowling, Project Director Hull said: “We are committed to supporting local job creation and will work with local agencies and partners as part of our long term recruitment process.
“Our development plans in Hull and Paull form part of an overall programme of works over coming months and years. Our recruitment needs will reflect these phases.
The current phase of works is focused in the main on Alexandra Dock construction works through our port partner Associated British Ports. Siemens’ needs at present are focused on roles within our core planning team. We look forward to working more closely with the local community and businesses as our project progresses.”

It will be the first of many.”

Now, we have a tangible demonstration that it is really happening and we can expect a knock-on effect for the wider economy. We also know that Siemens wants to recruit locally and I look forward to working with Hull City Council and other partners to prove that Hull has a fantastic pool of talent to fill the jobs that Siemens is offering.”
The development of this industry sector is critically important to the economic growth of the area and through the Regional Growth Funded Green Port Growth Programme the Councils’ will ensure that the local workforce is armed with the necessary skills requirements to be employed within this sector. The programme had already provided wage subsidies for over 250 Level 3 engineering apprentices and expect that the numbers will increase over the next few years.
