The Danish Government announced yesterday that the Growth Plan 2014 agreement in the energy sector had been adopted, as the majority of the parliamentary parties agreed on it.

The agreement cuts Public Service Obligation (PSO) in total of DKK 13.2 billion until 2020, which will reduce costs of electricity bills.

“We have listened to businesses without compromising our green ambitions. Therefore, we are now significantly lowering electricity bills for both businesses and consumers, while we continue the green transition,” Minister Rasmus Petersen said.

Among other things implemented, the agreement prolongs the period in which Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm can be constructed by two years. Current projections say that 53 percent of the electricity that the Danes will use in 2020 will come from wind turbines.

The higher wind usage percentage is partly due to the fact that wind turbines have proven to be more effective and due to an expected increase in expansion of onshore wind by 2020.

“It is important that there is broad political support for the green transition. It is something that companies that invest in green transition need,” Minister Petersen said.
