Residents from Fleurieu Peninsula were updated on the status of a stranded wave energy device in Carrickalinga waters.

Last month representatives of the District Council of Yankalilla; the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI); the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR); the Environment Protection Authority (EPA); and Oceanlinx’s receiver, KordaMentha attended the meeting, writes Victor Harbour Times.

Residents were informed that public access restriction notice to the 3500-tonne structure is still active as it poses a danger to divers and swimmers.

A CAD 7 million wave energy converter ran into trouble 1.4 kilometres off the Carrickalinga coastline when airbags supporting the device suffered serious damage.

According to representatives, they are still waiting for the insurance claim to be settled as the removal of the structure will cost around CAD 2 million.
