Victoria Redhead is no stranger to adrenaline, after being appointed as a trainee instructor at Maersk Training in Newcastle. Maersk Training has welcomed Victoria on-board as it seeks to find other talented individuals who can learn a valued skill-set and become fully qualified instructors.

Ms Redhead follows in the footsteps of Lynn Lowes who was appointed as the company’s first female instructor to its wind energy division in 2013.

The 24-year old, from Cramlington, Northumberland, has previous expertise as a call handler dealing with both emergency and non-emergency calls, whilst also acting as a community first response volunteer at North East Ambulance Service.

This, combined with her work as a firefighter for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, stood her in good stead for the position.

Ms Redhead said: “ The opportunities at Maersk Training really appealed to me, as a trainee instructor you are learning and enhancing your skill set all the time.

“The hours are flexible, catered to an instructor’s individual needs. This is ideal for me as I work as a freelancer combining my role as a trainee instructor alongside my position as a retained fire fighter.

“To be able to develop a career for myself and teach people at the same time is invaluable experience. I currently deliver GWO (Global Wind Organisation) First Aid Training for which I am accredited. I am also working to achieve accreditation in a range of areas such as fire awareness, confined space training, manual handling and working at height.

“All courses range in length, I can combine the practical work I do with the fire service and really see how the theory side fits into my on-going learning.

“At the end of my training, I hope to stay on and specialise as a wind instructor as the renewable sector offers great opportunities and this is an area I particular enjoy!”
