Siemens halted development of tidal energy 10MW Skerries tidal array two months after UK Government withdrew £10m.

The company said in its statement: “Following discussion with our partners we have decided to suspend our work on the Skerries Tidal Array Project in Anglesey, Wales.”

Siemens has been developing Skerries project through its Bristol-based subsidiary Marine Current Turbines. After its completion, the project will supply power for up to 10,000 homes

According to the company, MCT is undergoing discussions with suppliers and other key stakeholders. “We continue to believe that tidal energy will play an important future role in delivering the UK’s low carbon economy and creating long term sustainable jobs.”

The government withdrew funds after company failed to secure private sector match funding for the 10MW project.
