Oregon-based M3 Wave launched an innovative wave energy device on Thursday, Breaking Energy news site reports.

The device was deployed on the seabed off the coast from Camp Rilea, an Oregon National Guard training center, and is scheduled to remain there for two weeks.

The innovative part is that this wave energy generator sits on the seabed instead of being placed at sea surface.

“We think that by avoiding the abusive environment at the surface of the ocean and the over-engineering required to survive that environment, and without exposed moving parts, we have a concept that can cost-effectively produce energy,” the news site quotes Mike Morrow, CEO of M3 Wave , as saying.
