Components of Inch Cape Offshore Limited’s met mast are nearing completion at East Lothian based steel fabrication company Had-Fab. The specialist fabrication company is responsible for the manufacturing of the innovative lattice mast to be used for measuring wind speeds at the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm site.

Had-Fab has been contracted to produce the steel lattice section by DRACE Infrastructure UK Ltd who is responsible for the overall delivery of the Inch Cape met mast to be installed offshore later this year. Approximately 40 staff have been working on the project from the company’s Macmerry base.

The 93 metre lattice structure is fabricated from complex tubular sections and will carry the critical wind measuring equipment. Mast sections will be transported to Invergordon where they will be assembled and erected as part of the overall structure which will then be towed out for installation on the site approximately 15km off the Angus coastline.

Stephen Kerr, Inch Cape Project Director , commented: “The offshore mast is required to monitor wind characteristics at the site to ensure the design of the project is optimised. We are delighted that local suppliers continue to win work on the project. This demonstrates that high value engineering jobs are being created across the offshore wind sector which benefits our local communities.”

Had-Fab General Manager, Billy McCann : “We are very pleased to have been given this opportunity by Inch Cape and Drace to showcase our company and staff’s exceptional ability to achieve a high standard of fabrication in such a short program. We hope to be involved with other such projects.”
