Over 180 people gathered in Cardiff Bay to celebrate the contribution of companies, projects and individuals at the 2014 Wales Green Energy Awards, organised by RenewableUK Cymru.
The eight categories were Engaging in the community, Contribution to skills & training, Supply chain development, Best use of renewable energy in the public sector, Outstanding advocate, Renewable energy start, Political award, Outstanding renewable energy project.
The winners which represent the very best examples of green energy in Wales, were: Renew Wales, Mabey Bridge, Chepstow, Tidal Energy Ltd, Cardiff and Pembroke Dock, Partnerships for Renewables Oakdale Business Park Wind Energy Project, Caerphilly County Borough, Dan McCallum, Awel Aman Tawe, Neath Port Talbot, Egni, Alun Davies AM, The National Trust (Wales) Marine Source Heat Pump in Plas Newydd Country House & Gardens.
The winners were chosen by an independent judging panel that comprised David Clubb, Director of RenewableUK Cymru, Lee Waters, Director of the Institute of Welsh Affairs, Chris Kelsey, Environmental Editor at Media Wales and Peter Davies, Wales’ Commissioner for Sustainable Futures.
David Clubb said: “The second year of the Awards produced a large number of high-quality nominations, and all of the finalists should be very proud of themselves and of the difference they have made to the people, communities and businesses of Wales. The projects showcased today, and the thousands of installations already in operation around the country, are just a tiny taste of the true potential which Wales has to offer in future years. Today was an opportunity to highlight the opportunity from the sector, and to celebrate the huge benefits which have already been realised to date.”
