RES Offshore has successfully completed its first Engineer Procure Construct (EPC) contract for the design and installation of Met Mast for the West of Duddon Sands Offshore Wind Farm. Having been awarded the contract in June 2013, RES has project managed the design, fabrication and installation of the Met Mast within 12 months, completing the project handover in August this year. Now, RES reports that the mast has been successfully gathering data for the last 3 months.

From the outset, an integrated design approach was taken. RES Offshore used its engineering expertise to develop the foundation design in-house and worked closely with lattice mast subcontractor, Carl C, to produce a bespoke mast. RES Offshore employed the services of GeoSea to install the Met Mast, using jack-up vessel Innovation while RES’ own specialist instrumentation engineers designed and installed the instrumentation and communication systems.

Chris Morgan, CEO of RES Offshore , commented: “Having successfully completed this contract we are now looking to build on this success with the construction and maintenance of further Met Masts in the future.”

“In addition to the quick turnaround from design through to installation, safety statistics show that there were no lost time incidents during the whole project.”

Charlie Jordan, ScottishPower Renewables Project Director , said: “The met mast has been installed and commissioned within budget and programme, with works executed with an excellent health and safety performance. The data, now available via the Met Mast, will be incredibly valuable as a key performance management tool that will effectively support the optimised performance of the wind farm.”
