Dong Energy’s buoy washed ashore at Biggar Bank earlier this week, attracting attention of spectators, writes North-West Evening Mail.

Namely, one of Dong’s floating wind measurement buoys (FLiDARs), deployed at the north west corner of the West of Duddon Sands wind farm, got loose and ended up on Walney Island.

“The coastguard and local harbour masters have been notified, and DONG Energy will be working with the operator of the buoy to salvage and retrieve the unit and its mooring system,” Dong Energy’s spokesperson said.

The company also added the buoy does not pose any risk to the environment or the public.

The West of Duddon Sands wind farm is located in the Irish Sea, 14km from the Walney Island.

When fully operational, the 389MW wind farm will produce enough electricity to power around 300,000 households.
