A lot is going on this week in the Netherlands when it comes to offshore renewable energy sector.

On Monday, one of Dutch companies established a partnership with a Greek offshore renewable technology developer, aiming to further develop and commercialize a floating wind energy system.

Then, two of the country’s consultancy companies launched a new international consultancy Wind Minds, together with a pair of German partners. Their objective is to enter the offshore wind market in North West Europe, America and Asia. Today, this newly created company announced that it bagged an offshore wind contract in Taiwan.

In addition, an innovative floating tidal energy project has been agreed to be built in the Wadden Sea, near Texel. This was announced this morning by a group of nine Dutch companies, including some of the largest offshore energy sector players.

OWIM Conference Cherry on Top (with Gallery)

Like all of the above was not enough to realize that the Netherlands is humming with renewable energy activity, the Offshore WIND Installation and Maintenance Conference is being held today at Amsterdam RAI, and there are not that much places left to sit down and listen to the speakers talking about a certain issue at one of OWIM’s sessions (see a few photos below the text).

The first session saw Marie Donnelly, Director of New and Renewable Sources of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Innovation at the European Commission’s DG Energy, discussing the benefits of a meshed offshore grid in the Northern Seas. According to a study conducted for the European Commission by PWC, Ecofys, and Tractebel Engineering, a meshed offshore grid can bring significant financial, technical, and environmental benefits at the EU level.

Stay tuned for more info, photos and social network shares from the OWIM conference, powered by Navingo BV and Offshore WIND .
