The second phase of the Fukushima Floating Offshore Wind Farm Demonstration Project has commenced. Preparatory works for the installation of the 7MW wind turbine on the three-column semi-sub floater at Onahama port, Fukushima, are almost completed as the floater left Nagasaki today .
The second phase includes the assembly and setting of two 7MW oil pressure drive-type floating wind turbines, delivery of the facilities to the testing area and connection to the subsea cable. The installation of chains, anchors and undersea cables at the testing area has been successfully completed. Onahama port was adjusted to accommodate the project with ground improvement and installation of the undersea mound for mounting the wind turbine on the three-column semi-sub.
The nacelles and towers for the 7MW oil pressure drive-type wind turbines are being constructed at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Yokohama Dockyard & Machinery Works.
Arrival of the three-column semi-sub floater and mounting at Fujiwara quay, Onahama port, is expected around November 10. By January next year, a large-scale crane will be assembled at Onahama port for the purpose of the installation work. Installation of the 7MW wind turbines on the three-column semi-sub floater, delivery of the system and its mooring operation in the testing area is scheduled to start in early February.
The project, sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, is being developed by a consortium comprised of Marubeni (project integrator), the University of Tokyo (technical advisor), Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan Marine United, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, Hitachi, Furukawa Electric, Shimizu, and Mizuho Information & Research.
