Councillors of the Beaumaris Town Council have urged Anglesey’s politicians to work on attracting more tidal energy projects to the area, North Wales Chronicle informs.

After Siemens halted its Skerries Tidal Stream Array project, the only one that is currently planned for the area is the one from Minesto and Menter Môn, which is expected to have a capacity of 120MW.

“We’ve lost tidal energy projects on Anglesey. They say we need more nuclear power stations, but tidal power would work better,” the news site quotes Councillor David Gallichan as saying.

Moreover, Councillor Jason Zalot said that Anglesey’s tidal projects could harness more energy in a day than the Wylfa nuclear power station could generate in a year.
