Marine Power Systems (MPS), a Swansea-based company that is developing revolutionary technology designed to capture the energy from ocean waves, has boosted its team by appointing an experienced Project Engineering Manager.

Gareth Potter is a professional civil engineer and project manager with extensive experience in the planning, design, and construction of major engineering projects.

Before joining MPS, Gareth worked as the Business Development Manager within the Marine Energy Research Group (MERG) at Swansea University. The MERG team lead the Low Carbon Research Institute (LCRI) Marine project; a collaboration of the leading academic marine institutions in Wales that provides independent research for the marine energy industry.

Prior to that position, he worked at Halcrow, part of the CH2M Hill group of companies, which provides planning, design and management services for engineering projects. During nine years at the company, he worked on several large civil engineering schemes including three innovative carbon reduction road lighting schemes and the Docklands Light Railway extension in London.

Dr Gareth Stockman, Managing Director of MPS, said:

“Our growth over the last year truly displays how far we have come. I am really looking forward to working with Gareth, and seeing what he can bring to the company. Gareth brings a wealth of experience in the marine energy sector, and we are very excited about the impact he can have here.”

Gareth Potter said:

“After being involved at the cutting edge of UK marine energy research at LCRI Marine, I’m delighted to join MPS at this truly exciting stage in the company’s development, by leading their quarter scale WaveSub device through the fabrication and testing phases. The WaveSub concept is unique and a potential game changer for the wave energy market.”

In another boost to its resources, MPS has also hired Jean-Baptiste Le Dreff on a permanent basis after he completed an internship whilst studying for his Masters Degree. Jean-Baptiste is a specialist in computer modeling and he approached MPS after developing a strong interest in the potential of wave energy. He has now relocated from France to work with the Swansea firm.
