RenewableUK has marked its 36th Annual Conference by, for the first time, making a number of awards at its Gala Dinner. The Dinner, attended by over 400 renewable energy professionals, saw awards handed out for “Breakthrough”, “Apprentice of the Year” and “Excellence”.

The breakthrough award was given to MHI Vestas Offshore Wind for their joint venture and 8MW platform. Apprentice of the Year was won by Ross Kenyon of RWE Innogy UK Ltd, who is a part of the company’s Wales Wind Turbine Apprentice scheme, which has been running since 2012, and has been expanded each year since. The final award presented was for Excellence and was received by Alistair Mackinnon of DNV-GL for the work he has done over many years to progress small and medium wind standardisation and certification.

Commenting on the awards, Garth Halliday, RenewableUK Director of Events, Marketing and Membership said: “Our gala dinner has long been a celebration for the industry, and we felt it was only right this year to formalise that by awarding those individuals and organisations at the very top of our sector. We had excellent nominations across the categories and are already looking forward to seeing next year’s nominees.”

The Dinner took place at the end of Day 2 of the RenewableUK Annual Conference, a day which also featured a keynote speech from the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Rt Hon Edward Davey MP, the launch of RenewableUK’s annual Wind Energy in the UK report, the unveiling of a new multimedia campaign Faces of Wind Energy, the publication of the Chinn Report into offshore wind supply chain, and the formal launch of new blade maintenance, repair and inspection training courses and standards at an event held by the RTN (Renewables Training Network) which included presentations by Energy Skills Partnership and Renewables Strategy Limited.
