On November 7, the first SEC – Siemens 4.0MW wind turbine rolled off the assembly line at the production facility at Lingang, Shanghai.
The wind turbine is also Siemens’ first localized 4.0MW wind turbine. Its 63-meter-long rotor blades gives it a swept area of 13,300 square meters, which is equal to approximately two football fields, and 18% larger than that of its predecessor.
A simplified and robust design has led to both lower weight and greater strength. Together with added efficiency of the new geared drivetrain, the result is up to 15 % more power output at IEC I conditions. All of this drives down the cost of offshore wind energy.
