In spring 2013, Alstom received an order from transmission grid operator TenneT to act as general contractor in the construction, installation and servicing of the HVDC offshore platform DolWin3.

Selected TenneT employees are being systematically trained in the different disciplines so that the customer can operate its system to the highest possible standards following commissioning in 2017. These training measures are being provided as part of the overall project by the Kassel Technical Institute (TIK) with Alstom Grid in charge of them.

The measures cover both theoretical as well as practical training by Alstom or its subcontractors. These include, for example, training courses on the future cores of the offshore platform. Training on the gas-insulated substations will be provided in the first quarter of next year in the technical institutes by Alstom in Oberentfelden (CH) and Aix-les-Bains (F). In the Stafford Technical Institute (UK), the customer employees will receive detailed training in HVDC technology. Training in the numerous subdisciplines will be offered in cooperation with the suppliers.

“Due to the complex geographical position of the offshore platform at a distance of around 80 km from the coast, the requirements to be met by the future service personnel on site are very high. Targeted training will help to reduce the maintenance costs after commissioning. We are adopting a proactive approach by training the employees in good time – this is highly appreciated by our customer TenneT,” declared Dr Michael Bünning, Unit Managing Director Service Germany at yesterday’s kick-off event for the training measures with TenneT in Kassel.

In total, over 50 TenneT employees will be trained in different disciplines over the coming 24 months.
