Vattenfall has assisted local fishermen Andy Riches and Matt and Steve Barnes to harvest Whitstable Native oysters for an oyster survey.

Kentish Flats Extension Project Construction Manager, Peder Christensen also took part in the operation.

“It is important to Vattenfall that the fishermen are happy with the survey. When we build our wind farms we have to really understand local culture and sometimes the ‘branding’ of the town nearby our developments,” the company stated.

Graham West of West Whelks helped package up the oysters for transit, ensuring that the oysters were kept at exactly the right temperature in transit to the labs.

The wind farm development will consist of 15 turbines that will provide an additional maximum installed capacity of up to 49.5MW. Offshore construction work is expected to commence mid-2015.
