Jee Ltd, a subsea engineering and training company, will share its experience in the field of offshore renewables and marine energy at the annual Wave & Tidal 2015 conference and exhibition next month.

Presenting on day two in the session ‘Next Generation Enabling Technologies for the Wave and Tidal Sector’, Jee’s Business Development Manager for the Renewables sector, Gary Howland, will discuss a contract that Jee was awarded in June 2014. The contract to develop solutions for locating, securing, protecting and recovering electrical subsea cables, was part of Scottish Enterprise’s Marine Energy Array Cabling Solution Development project.

Mr Howland said: “The expanding renewables industry has introduced marine energy as an effective solution to help decarbonise the UK’s energy supply, increase energy security and reduce our dependence on imported fossil fuels. The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) estimates that wave and tidal energy combined has the potential to deliver around 20 per cent of the UK’s current electricity needs, demonstrating the importance of bringing it to the commercial market.”

The event, which is expected to attract over 500 delegates, will feature a keynote address from MSP Minister for Business, Energy and Tourism, Fergus Ewing.

“It has been forecast that the global wave and tidal market will be worth around £50 billion by 2050, which further highlights the viability of adopting the energy for commercial use and the importance of these development projects in making it possible.”

Mr. Howland’s presentation will outline the development programme, the key findings, the challenges that were encountered and go onto explain the solutions that Jee Ltd identified during the project.

Now in its 12th year, Renewable UK’s Wind & Tidal conference and exhibition brings professionals and experts in the field of renewables together to discuss new innovations and developments made in the sector. The two day event will take place from 25-26 February at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, The Exchange, Morrison Street.
