Japanese Ministry of Environment has estimated that the country’s energy mix could comprise more than 295 terawatt hours (TWh) of renewable energy in 2030.

Since in 2013 renewables accounted for 2.2% in a total of 939.7 TWh of produced power, this could mean that Japan could generate a third of its power from clean sources.

According to Mainichi Japan, the whole estimation is based on more than just one scenario, depending on the country’s future energy policies.

The Ministry said that the estimated quantities are subject to change and, to avoid “undue speculation”, they are not yet officially released. They are expected to be made publicly available sometime in June of this year.
