One year after its launching, Nass&Wind Offshore had achieved validation campaign of its floating measurement platform M3EA (Marine Measurements for Meteorological and Environmental Assessment) off the coast of Saint Vaast-la-Hougue (Manche).
Dedicated to wind and environmental measurements for Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) and supported by the Région Bretagne, M3EA recently obtained its validation from DNV GL.
During a test period from January to December 2014, M3EA device, equipped with a LiDAR system, has demonstrated performance in line with offshore wind industry standards for such devices.
“Although the validation has not been conducted against high quality mechanical anemometry, it is considered that a high quality and tested wind measurement device has been used and that a robust validation has been undertaken. The floating platform M3EA has been shown to reproduce onshore LiDAR wind speeds and wind directions with a high accuracy and DNV GL considers that this device has provided confidence with respect to both its accuracy and its availability during this validation campaign,” said Jérôme Jacquemin, Country Manager, DNV GL – Energy.
Nass&Wind Offshore is considering several R&D programs in order to accommodate innovative measurement systems on M3EA platform. These new in situ measurements will clarify the expertise of the environmental context – birds, bats, fishes, marine mammals – within the frame of MRE (Marine Renewable Energies) development.
