Newcastle-based Maersk Training has launched its latest training course to expand its portfolio of health and safety courses for the wind energy industry.

The Hub Rescue course, which is recommended for WTG Technicians, Blade Inspectors, and Installation and Maintenance Subcontractors, has been designed to provide both theoretical and practical skill sets for those required to access Hub and Yaw sections of wind turbine generators and how to rescue a casualty from these areas.

The one day course covers key disciplines such as the best practise for accessing the hub and carrying out rescues, practical casualty management with the rescue equipment and rescue and haulage of casualty from various locations on and inside the training rig.

Once completed, the Hub Rescue course will provide delegates with the knowledge and skill needed to work safely at height using appropriate restraint techniques and the correct casualty management using various stretchers and evacuation devices.

Senior instructor at Maersk Training, Andy Suthern , said: “We have designed our state of the art Nacelle Unit and developed the course to cater for numerous designs of Wind Turbines, this allows the course to be bespoke depending on individual customer demands. The course covers all aspects of Hub Rescue allowing a realistic environment to prepare the delegates for emergency situations in the challenging and remote Wind Turbine environment.”

Alan McKerns, HSEQ/ Operations Manager at Skyform , said: “ Skyform has found the Maersk Hub Rescue course to be extremely beneficial to our engineers and their feedback on the professionalism of the Maersk trainers has been very positive.”

Enrolment for the course is open now, with the first course taking place in May 2015. Places are still available on all courses.
