Ming Yang’s 6.5MW Turbine Enters Testing Phase

Chinese wind farm developer has connected its super compact drive (SCD) 6.5WM wind turbine to the grid.

Installed in late 2014 by Zhenhua Heavy, the turbine is located in Jiangsu province at Longyuan Rudong Intertidal wind farm where it will undergo testing over the course of two years.

Chuanwei Zhang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ming Yang, said: “Our unique model provides our customers with a cost-effective solution for their offshore wind farm projects in typhoon-prone coastal areas where extreme weather conditions prevail, for example the eastern and southern coast of China, potentially one of the world’s largest offshore markets.”

He also announced the company will develop three-blade SCD wind turbine model, specializing in catching low speed wind.

“We expect that we will be able to seize the huge market opportunities by providing a wider product mix as well as value-added services, as the PRC government continues to push for renewable energy solutions in an effort to combat air pollution,” Zhang concluded.

The SCD 6.5MW wind turbine features two-blade design with lightweight permanent magnet generator adapted to China typhoon weather conditions. It is designed mainly for offshore operation.
