The final phase of testing the HiWave technology is complete and the HiWave project can now focus on tackling the deployment of the technology at a full scale, KIC InnoEnergy informed.
The HiWave project aims to industrialise a wave energy converter with five times higher energy density compared to existing technologies. The real size prototype of the buoy is expected to be complete in 2016. It will be manufactured in glass fiber or steel, will measure 8 metres in diameter and weigh close to 60 tons.
The project involves Corpower, the Swedish start-up supported by KIC InnoEnergy, Iberdrola and WavEC.
