Esvagt has taken delivery of the second of three Havyard 832 SOV windfarm service vessels from Havyard Ship Technology AS.
The first, newbuild 118 ‘Esvagt Froude’ was delivered in the middle of February. The German company Siemens Wind Power has hired both vessels on long-term contracts to service their offshore windfarms. ‘Esvagt Froude’ is on a five-year contract for Siemens and will service the windfarm Baltic 2 in the Baltic Sea, while ‘Esvagt Faraday’ will be on a ten-year contract and will service the Butendiek project in the northern part of the German sector of the North Sea.
The contract for the first two Havyard 832 SOV windfarm service vessels was entered into in July 2013. Esvagt has also ordered an additional Havyard 832 SOV from Havyard. It will be under contract for Dudgeon windfarm, which is operated by Statoil.
“There will always be challenges in connection with the development and production of new products, which was also the case when we built the first windfarm vessel,” says Lasse Stokkeland , head of Havyard Ship Technology AS. “The advantage of being in control of both the design and building of new types of vessels is that it gives us an opportunity to test new solutions and identify any changes that need to be made before other vessels are built, either at our own yard or at an external yard. Although the second vessel followed hot on the heels of the prototype, a lot was learned during the building of the first vessel, which was a great advantage during the execution of the second project. We are very well equipped to build even more ships for this exciting market, or to provide support to other yards that want to build our design,” concluded Stokkeland .
