The offshore wind industry in southern Denmark can benefit from the large and growing market in Germany through cross-border cooperation, Offshoreenergy.dk said.
A total of 766 companies are working with offshore wind near the Danish-German border, 404 Danish and 362 German. Over 80% of them often form partnerships with other companies when working with offshore wind. However, only 15% of companies are developing partnerships across the border.
“The will to enter into partnerships is there,” says Björn Lehmann-Matthaei, director of Research and Development Center Kiel . “But cross-border cooperation can be developed. There is a huge German market that should be ready to turn to Danish companies, which have a very high level of expertise and many years of experience with offshore wind,” he said.
More than 40 companies, educational institutions and organizations discussed cross-border cooperation at a conference organized by Offshoreenergy.dk in Esbjerg.
“We have 25 years of experience in offshore wind on the Danish side of the border and plenty of future growth on the German side of the border,” says Hans A. Pedersen, Project Manager, Renewables at Offshoreenergy.dk .
“We have a lot of knowledge which can benefit the entire region. There is the possibility for a much greater cooperation than the one we have today,” he said.
