Offshore Wind Sector Reports 959 HSE Incidents in 2014

G9 has published new Health and Safety (HSE) statistics for offshore wind sector, which show there were a total of 959 reported incidents in 2014. G9 has published new Health and Safety (HSE) statistics for offshore wind sector, which show there were a total of 959 reported incidents in 2014.

The reported incidents for last year are categorised as follows:

The overall Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) shows a decrease of 34% compared to the previous year, while the Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) has increased by 3%.

The report is published by the G9 Offshore Wind Health and Safety Association (G9) and supported by the Energy Institute (EI). The publication gives a comprehensive insight into the health and safety performance of the G9 members from 45 sites spread across the United Kingdom and Northern Europe.

Benj Sykes, Chairman of the G9 Board of Directors, and Head of Asset Management at DONG Energy Wind Power , said: “Within the G9 there is a commitment to be open, honest and transparent concerning our HSE performance and this report is a valuable resource which helps us identify and respond to emerging HSE risks, and continuously improve the safety performance of our industry.”

Since the first data report was published in 2014, the G9 have expanded the amount and type of data collected to include hours worked, dropped objects, medivacs and emergency response, and also high potential (HiPo) incidents.

The hours worked data has also been used to calculate Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) and Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR), which can be used to benchmark offshore wind industry performance with other sectors.
