EnBW’s offshore wind farm Baltic 2 generated the first kilowatt hour of electricity and fed it into the grid last weekend.
EnBW Baltic 2 is currently being built 32 kilometres north of the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea. At this point, 60 of a total of 80 wind energy turbines have been installed.
Now that 50Hertz, the responsible transmission grid operator, has put the first of the two 150-kilovolt sea cables and the required technology on the wind farm platform into trial operation, the wind turbines can be connected to the grid.
In the end, the wind farm with its 80 wind turbines will have a total output of 288 megawatts. As a result, every year approx. 1,200 gigawatt hours of electricity can be generated for, theoretically, about 340,000 households, saving around 900,000 tonnes of CO2.
