Blake Boren, a PhD student from Oregon State University’s Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center (NNMREC), advised by Dr. Belinda Batten (NNMREC Director), has begun testing his wave energy converter prototype at the O. H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory (HWRL) in coordination with Pedro Lomónaco (HWRL Director).
According to NNMREC, the device is a vertical axis pendulum based wave energy converter, called Vincent.
As Vincent’s orange hull pitches and rolls due to ocean waves, its internal pendulum swings and turns the generator.
